Many great Saints enjoyed thorough visions from God. As they were very close to Him, this is obvious. But these were very peculiar in nature. Many of them are were thought to be hallucinations by people who heard of them.
St Alphonsa was all the time confined to the bed and suffered greatly. She used to argue with Jesus about providing healing to those who asked prayers from her. It was not His will to grant that healing.
A nun hearing the voices in St Alphonsa’s room, peeked in to find out what was happening. She saw that the Saint was talking to someone. But Jesus was not visible to her. And after this incident, the prayers offered by St Alphonsa being answered, the nun got enough reason to believe that she indeed was witnessing a dialogue between Jesus and the Saint.
Such heavenly visitations and dialogues are common to all the Saints. People need to believe and not speculate otherwise.
