Wisdom of Yore

Those who serve God lack no good thing. Contrary to the situation in this world, even majestic young lions suffer and hunger(Psalm 34:10). More so, those who serve and proclaim the gospel are asked to carry nothing with them on the journey to these places- not even money with an extra pair of clothes(Luke 9:3).

The Saints too believed in God’s Providence and carried nothing with them on their way to preach the Good News. This was particularly true with St Francis of Assisi. His congregation, the Franciscans, do the same even today and live an austere life.

Christ too, believed in God’s Providence. We can see numerous instances in the Bible: He paid temple tax with a coin obtained from a fish(Matthew 17:27); asked His disciples to arrange a table for the Passover meal quite miraculously(Luke 22:10-13).

We should draw inspiration from the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap(Matthew 6:26).
