The end times cataclysm known prominently as the Mayan Calendar Doomsday or also the quite similar destruction of the Earth picturized in the movie ‘2012’ is eerily described throughout the Bible. These passages can be found in Is 13; Mt 24:29; Mk 13:24; Lk 21:25,26. We are in the times wherein people are afraid of the roar of the sea mentioned in the previous passage of the gospel of Luke. There are famines too everywhere now.

Is 13:7–13, or more importantly, v13 states that the heavens will tremble and the earth will be shaken out of its place. This was the presupposed cataclysm that was mentioned in the Mayan Calendar. In the Bible, it is recorded amply as the powers of heaven will be shaken[Lk 21:26], sun will grow dark and moon will not give its light.
In the verses mentioned above, there is an allusion to people fainting as to what would happen to them. But to put things into perspective—this begs the question—does this mean that it is the end of the world and the human race will become extinct? The answer is: Though this cataclysm is of epic proportions, this cannot happen and is mentioned in the Bible in the passage of Is 13.
v12 states that humans will become very rare- more rare than the gold of Ophir. And even more so, the treasury in the temple of the Lord will be full. This is going to happen and one can only prepare himself for this with persistent prayer. Be watchful and vigilant[Mt 26:38–41].
