God works in elaborate plans in the lives of his people who are consecrated to him (Jer 29:11). He is pleased to do what he wills in them (Psalm 115:3). He is their refuge (Psalm 46:1) and gathers them under his wings protecting from every harm or danger (Mt 23:37).
St Therese of Lisieux was eagerly awaiting her nervous or psychological illness –she acquired at the tender age of 5– to end. But, God had his own plans and healed her only at the time he wanted. Till then she was supplied with graces to bear it.
His main goal is our salvation. As a good father, he wants only the best things for us. Also, he may be fearsome, but there is always a steadfast love in him (Nehemiah 1:5).
